Somalia is a member of African-Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) and used to be one of the top African banana exporting countries (Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Somalia). During 80s and 90s Somalia used to export large quantities of fresh green bananas on reefer vessels to Middle East, Italy, Germany and the Persian Gulf. It was recorded in 1972 a total export of 12 million cartons of 12.5 net weight to these destinations.
While protecting the interests of Somali farmers and banana growers in particular, and at the same time discouraging foreign land-grabs and hostile take-over, FruitSome entertains the idea of cooperation and partnerships with major banana multinationals and investors in marketing Somali bananas.
